Fall Tequila Cocktails with Sauza

Fall tequila cocktails? I’m sure that sounds crazy to a lot of you. But I’ve worked with Sauza in the past, and I’m here to tell you, tequila isn’t just for Cinco de Mayo or summer margaritas!

Sauza uses fresh pressed blue agave for their tequilas, making them fresh, sweet, and easy to drink, especially when mixed in to cocktails. Most often, tequila is mixed with tart and sour citrus to offset its natural sweetness.

But as citrus production goes down in the fall, there’s a new, natural pairing for Sauza tequila: cranberries!

I’ve made cranberry infused vodka in the past, but now I’m all about cranberry and tequila.

Autumn Cran-Orange MargaritaAutumn Cran-Orange Margarita
1 ½ parts Sauza® Signature Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
½ part JDK & Sons™ O3 Premium Orange Liqueur
1 part cranberry puree
Orange peel (optional)

Cranberry Puree:
½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice, about 2 oranges
½ cup sugar
4 ounce package of fresh cranberries

To make the cranberry puree: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar in the orange juice. Add the cranberries and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Set aside and let it cool. Blend cranberries in a blender, then strain. For the cocktailIn a shaker add crushed ice, 1 ½ part of Sauza® Blue Silver, ½ part of JDK & Sons™ O3 Premium Orange Liqueur, 1 part cranberry puree and shake to mix. Pour drink into glass and garnish with orange peel (optional).

And, naturally, we won’t get away with talking about fall cocktails if we don’t talk about the PSL.

Pumpkin Spice MargaritaPumpkin Spice Margarita

1 ½ parts Sauza® Signature Blue Reposado 100% Agave Tequila
3 parts cream (dairy or coconut cream will work!)
½ part Torani® Pumpkin Spice Syrup
1 part simple syrup
½ tsp. vanilla extract
¼ tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice
Extra cinnamon for rimming (optional)

Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass rimmed with cinnamon.

Now, I can’t do a cocktail post without making one of my own.

Inspired by the cranberry concept, I thought to myself– what else is autumnal and crisp and sour?

Green apples, of course.

Green Apple Tequila Spritzerinfusion

For the infused tequila

475 mL Sauza blanco tequila
3 small Granny Smith apples
1 cinnamon stick
jar

For the cocktail

1 tablespoon natural maple syrup
1 1/2 ounces infused tequila
1 1/2 ounces club soda
ice
Granny Smith wheel for garnish

  1. In your clean jar, roughly chop 3 clean Granny Smith apples, off of their core. (Apple seeds contain arsenic and, while you have to eat a lot of them to get sick, all alcohol is a solvent and you just want to hedge your bets here.) Add a cinnamon stick and fill to cover, probably with half your bottle of blanco Sauza tequila.
  2. Shake well and place your jar in the fridge for 1-5 days, shaking every day. Flavors will deepen over time.
  3. To make your cocktail: in an empty rocks glass, pour 1 tablespoon of natural maple syrup. Add ice. On top of the ice, pour 1 1/2 ounces infused tequila. Add 1 1/2 ounces club soda. Garnish with your Granny Smith wheel. Enjoy!

This fall tequila cocktail infused with Granny Smith apples and cinnamon has the tart, acidic flavor of green apples, with the round, autumnal sweetness of maple syrup. Upon taking his first sip, my boyfriend declared that it tasted like an apple crisp in a glass. Perfect!
